Emeritus Professor, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey, USA. Professor Benoliel’s last appointment was at the Sourasky Medical Center as Chair of the Unit for Oral Medicine which he established (2022-2023). Currently he is involved in collaborative research with the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and the Eastman Dental Institute (as Adjunct Professor in Rochester University) and manages a private Face and Head Pain Center in Tel Aviv, Israel. Previously he was the Associate Dean for Research and director of the Center for Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (2013-2021). Dr Benoliel served as a faculty member at The Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine (1984-2013), where he was appointed Professor and chair of the Department of Oral Medicine (2003-2012). He served as research associate in the Unit of Neuronal Gene Expression at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (1997-1998). Dr Benoliel has published extensively on the subject of orofacial pain and headache; lectures extensively at national and international meetings; serves as Associate Editor for Cephalalgia (the leading headache journal) as well as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Oral and Facial Pain & Headache. He is co-editor of the highly commended textbook “Orofacial Pain and Headache”, now in the process of a 3rd edition. He has served on many important scientific committees including the Classification Committee of the International Headache Society, the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, the IASP WHO Chronic Pain classification committee for ICD-11 and led the team that recently published the first International Classification for Orofacial Pain.
